An Important Update About Elf the Musical

We are very sorry to share that SOAR’s December production of Elf the Musical has been canceled.

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure performance rights for the production. When we applied months ago, no restrictions were listed and the title appeared available for licensing. After receiving no response to our requests for updates, we were notified of the denial only a few days ago.

We pursued every avenue available to us, including formally appealing the decision and speaking directly with the Director of Amateur Licensing at Music Theatre International. Unfortunately, MTI was unable to grant SOAR the rights due to overarching restrictions on the title.

Without those rights, we cannot legally produce the show.

Our hearts are with everyone who was looking forward to Elf: especially the production staff who had already invested so much time, creativity, and enthusiasm, and everyone who was excited to audition and be part of the cast. We are truly sorry. We know how disappointing this is because we are deeply disappointed, too.

We are incredibly grateful for our performers, staff, volunteers, families, and audience who make SOAR what it is. We hope this disappointment will not diminish your trust in SOAR or your desire to continue creating theatre with us.

There are more stories to tell, music to make, and theatre magic to create.

And we still want to make some holiday joy! 🎄 If you were looking forward to performing this season, we invite you to join us for our Annual Holiday Concert Fundraiser. We’re looking for performers and special acts to help create an evening of music, community, and holiday cheer.

Holiday Concert details and information about how to participate are available on the main page of the website.

With sincere gratitude,

The SOAR Board
